I've never had a ranger before, but I created a new Tyrian ranger about a month ago for the single purpose of getting the -50 HP Grim Cesta from the Cities of Ascalon quest so I could try out a 55 Necro (don't have a monk). Since I'm very much a completionist, I went out and did everything possible in Pre-Searing, making it to level 9 before I entered the Academy (took about 8 hours, I think). By the time I finished the quest, though, I'd started to really enjoy playing a ranger a lot, and she still hadn't died yet, so I figured I'd just keep going and try to get LS.

I did every single quest, mission, and bonus on my way through Ascalon and the Shiverpeaks, and I reached Lion's Arch at level 18. Crossed to Elona to get heroes, then crossed to Cantha and did all the quests in Bukdek/Wajjun, got to around "level" 28. I've continued working through both Prophecies and Nightfall, doing every single quest open to her and getting full credit on all missions. She's at Hell's Precipice and Nundu Bay right now, and she just reached Indomitable a few days ago. I'll get her through HP soon and probably a few more missions in Nightfall (don't wanna chance the Realm of Torment), then it's off to capture elites.

Oh, and I did everything except for Yak's Bend->Lion's Arch->Elona with heroes/henchmen (my fiancee helped out with those parts).

What I'm thinking of doing, besides capping elites, is using the Battle of Turai's Procession quest to farm XP. I've never done it before, so I'm going to try on my Ritualist before sending my Survivor out there, but it looks like it should be really easy to do.

the easy way. aquire a group of lower slaves comprised mainly of friends and online guildies that arnt noobs and let them do everything for you that way you can do other things while they talk to eachother make new friends and get you through all 3 campaigns with no deaths. well thats what i did atleast. lol i said thx alot and never referred to them as slaves but yafriends are the safest way even with uber lag.

I've managed to get three legendary survivors through normal play (meaning no xp farming). Most important things to me are:

Don't aggro too many. It sounds simple but in some areas and with patrols you have to be careful.

Know your enemy. Don't just charge into any group but first see what they consist of. then take out the most important targets first.

When things look like they could go bad, retreat. I once lost an indomitable survivor because of retreating too late (logging out isn't my thing).

Skill capping helps a lot as well. This and getting protector for both Cantha and Nightfall helped me get two legendary survivors, one I managed to get before Nightfall.

To me paragon seems to be one of the easiest classes to get legendary survivor on. I'm at 2 million xp now and I've never been in trouble so far.

You can always try xp farming but if you manage to do it the 'hard' way you'll probably feel much satisfied.

I have a LS rit and the best advise I can give is to not PUG, ever!!!!
Never, ever, ever, even for a quest.

Get maxed armor and a sup vig as soon as possible.

Watch out for creatures that use the elite "Grenth's Balance."

If you feel like something is wrong and that your group might wipe, don't wait for things to turn around, JUST LEAVE. If you die you cannot get that progress back. I do know people who have died at r2 because they did not quit in time. If you aren't with PUGS and you are with people who know you are going for LS, they will undertsand.

Also, skill capping is a fun way to get xp. Plus it gives you a bunch towards your skill hunter titles.

I still wonder how people can go so far without dying.

I tried this title and I must face it: it's not for me.
The required concentration to achieve it is impossible for my pigeon brain...

I turn my head.. bam! Olias's idiot minions wander around and bring back to daddy a nice juicy triple aggro
My cat jumps on keyboard, my kids call for me...

I gave up and worked on something less troubling: scraping walls with my armor.

Rourouuuu

um ya now that takes some real patience im at 85-89% on all the continents just from doing the missions really dont feel like gettin the last 33 blotches of tyria or hug canthan walls... maybe later.

ya best way to stay alive is to not have a mm in your group and to have atleast 1 human monk devoted to healing you. gotta love a 500+ dwaynas kiss.

Take it from me.

Do NOT play when you are tired. EVER! I went with the whole 55 thing trying to get XP fast, and actually fell asleep for about 15 minutes. Came back to a dead Survivor...

I've had 3-4 Survivors, but I always kind of lose it before Indomitable....

I'll get it sooner or later...

Get to a point in the game where you can unlock all secondary professions for your character and skill cap all the bosses in areas that don't pose too much of a threat. Double exp. from cap weekends are excellent. Also, use flags for henchmen and heroes. You can send them in ahead of you if you and stay in the back line if something looks too sketchy to run in first.

Got my Legendary Survivor sin, here's her story:

Made an assassin. Henched all primary and secondary profession quests on nublet island, chose ranger as secondary. Henched Minister Cho's, henched Zen Daijun, did attribute point quests, hit the mainland at lv17. Run to KC, got max armor, henched to Kamadan (arguably the most dangerous part), got Koss, Dunkoro, Melonni, Tahlkora and Sousuke. Did some fedex quests around KC to hit lv20 and level heroes as well. Went to Lion's Arch, got Olias, run to Sanctum Cay, H+H'd Sanctum Cay, Dunes of Despair, Thirsty River and Elona Reach, ascended (couldn't talk myself into pushing my luck with Vizunah with a possibly glitched endscene). H+H'd Consulate Docks, established the Command Post, changed to an A/D at around 224k XP. Proceeded to beat the crap out of Jade Brotherhood Knights outside The Marketplace in Hard Mode until golden.

Total play time for completion: 35 hours 8 minutes

Well, I just tried this last night - it's SUPER EASY, even in Hard Mode. I gained 300,000 XP in only a couple hours. Used a couple "bigger" scrolls (200%, 175%) I had laying around, but mostly just used Hunter's scrolls (150%) and still got around 30,000 XP each run. I'll probably complete LS tonight.

Yeah, I admit it's a pretty cheap trick for getting the title, but I don't care.

I am attempting survivor now for the third time. Started a factions ranger and have reached lvl 17. I went with a few pugs, 3 infact for lost treasure, never left a group in my life till then. I warned them and they were kool with it but I am not going to die.

I found it pretty easy to use my longbow and stay at range. If they come close I switch to my crippling +33% shortbow and use pindown and run away. Also my pet seems to help alot. This tactic seems to help alot, hope it continues to do so.

As for PuGs I am done with em, on this char

barbed spear can be dropped easily, and eventually save yourselves could be dropped for other stuff, for example some dehex against antishouts. Using survivor insigs u are hardly ever attacked.
the ranger is a survivor, got the title with R/M, high xpertise = high blocking and ranger has many protection blocking skills + clean body from conditions and the remove and xpell hexes from the mesmer.

Basically if u can't be touched nor hex nor poisned or diseased how would u take damage? troll unguent +8health, and survivor healing skill for 10 secs. u get +70HP this ensures ur health bar is locked +

And the ranger is an xllent interuptor! so with a good build u'r safe, and don't forget a max dmg bow with a grip of fortitute in the backgroupd away from the danger of the battle keeps u safe for running in case of a bad surprise.

I know it might take more time to kill and this might be boring but for me it was safety first and it paid off.

Doing it 55 sytle is easy if you know how, I got Legendary Survivor last night using a 600hp monk, 35 hours old. The best step is to know the quickest safest way to get it, and do it.

I've done LS with my Ranger and it was totally easy...

Startet in Factions ...

- made all quests on Shing Jea ( > ended being Lvl17)
- some easy quests made in Kaineng, getting so quick as possible the Enemy Reduction Quest for lesser Am Fahs, then trained me there to lvl 20 in short time, Henchs killed everything for me, while I stood with long bow in last line and gave the weak foes the fatality shot XD BOOM head Shot rofl
- from lvl 20 on, changed to Nightfall, made there all easy quests/missions and got heroes.
-most missions (1-9) are easily done H/H with master in NF.
-when all quests were done, start to hunt down as much as possible Elite Skills for al classes, so change also your secondary, so that you can hunt for all elites on your ways
-with elite skill Hunting you should reach quite quick rank 2
- then the way for LS, beside Elite Capping (what you should do best, when a double exp event is over weekend, to get 10k exp per elite, instead of 5k) is farming SS/LB points north east of Vaabi, where the Djinns and Roaring Ethers are... farm there points and use exp doubling/trippling scrolls, while farming under the SS/LB double exp bonus, you make there very good exp per run and points also, even when its only NM
-or when you are very well prepared, meaning, that you have some good self heal skils with you, you could farm solo tihark with tripple scolls (~1000+ exp per monster) and like 12 harpies or so to kill in tihark = ~12k+ exp per run with a lightbringer scroll active, when the fights begin and killing those harpies don't takes long and you have some help of enough tanking npc's at your side.
for a ranger the troll skill with the 10s regeneration of say +7 is alone enough for that XD, go in there with multiple degeneration skills (Burning Arrow, Scream Shot, Apply Poison) and your enemies fall like flies

Yup.

You need some basic experience with the game before trying survivor, know which dangers are where and how to avoid them.

But much more you need the ability to deal with extreme boredom because of playing safe and staying focused and concentrated on the task ahead.

This is why I recommend playing with henchmen, they are more predictable than human monks who just go AFK without notice. Do not play with human players, not even guildies! You can achieve all you need with heroes and henchmen, and it is safer and you cannot blame anyone else for your failure.

I recommend skill-capping and wurming over 55ing, it has only 55 hps leeway to death.

this title sucks if lag happens. I went to guild hall with over 400 health, then I checked the next time I logged in, boom dead 1 time, and I was at over 400 000. So biggest tip watch for lag, as you may not really be out of the woods when u think you are.

55ing seems a bit risky. I wouldn't do it w/o a bonder hero to ensure I live. *lol* One important thing to do when going for LS is to read up on the area you're about to go into before hand. I was on my r1 Mesmer the other day and noticed my [skill=text]Channeling[/skill] kept getting stripped off and that I was taking alot of damage. Then I remember the Mesmer foes in the area carrried [skill=text]Shatter Enchantment[/skill] and felt like an idiot.

I recently got to legendary on a paragon first attempt.

If your going for it in nightfall its pretty easy, if you can afford it instantly get max armor by taxying to the docks (yes it might be considered cheating).

Anyway, complete all the quests (they're pretty easy) until jokanur diggings mission, once here you might want to get a guildie to help you through since the end boss reguarly punches holes through henchies.

Also get run through The isle of the dead, unless you wanna waste time levelling in newbie palace.

During your stay if you get stuck on SS points the insects right outside of great hall are a nice way to get ranks up.

Once you reach the Consulate Docks legitimatly (taxi some other legendary wannabes!) take all the quests to tyria and cantha, easy easy xp.

Personally i then did the command post quests and capped several skills around sunspear sanctuary (after Hunted!).

Once this had happened i headed into EotN, straight to gunnar's hold. You're here for Kilroy's Punchout Extravaganza! It is one of the least boring xp farms, start off in Normal Mode and once you learn the trick of the trade start doing Hard Mode runs (if you have it unlocked).

Especially in the last bit, scrolls are godly, be it getting them via "token" collectors or money, they really do help.

Good Luck!

And of course, do NOT play your survivor if you are even slightly lagging.

Only had r1 survivor. so my opinions are probably lame

Play the game properly, or just don't go for the title, also quests and missions give a lot of exp and are more fun than farming.
If you want a title that means you can farm go get the Unidentified golds =P
Bring good enough self defense so if something goes wrong you can bail out if your henching in time to log out/resign.
